Stiff Limbs (Everest - Part 3)
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar (Max Altitude: 3438 m / 11280 ft), 3 km / 1.8 miles, 3 hours
...So that just means a wee little acclimatization hike. 90 minutes and one full change of clothing later, I'm at the top of the Everest viewpoint. Lo and behold, the giant itself.
You have to use your imagination because the weather wasn't agreeable today. I suppose its fiiiine, I wouldn't want to be gawked at every day either.
Not one to know when to quit, I then trekked down to Khumjung Village where I met the most precious guardian temple dog and stepped foot into a Buddhist monastery for the first time.
Finally the day was capped off with a yoga class at 3400m // 11,000 ft. At this elevation, downward dog becomes woozy dog.
You'd think with the lack of visibility at the viewpoints and not much else to do, other people would have had the same idea. Unfortunately it was a class of one, with nowhere to hide from the watchful eyes of the instructor.
For an hour I proceeded to thoroughly embarrass myself in front of a lady named Swastika. While it means "Good Existence" or "Good Luck" in Nepali, it's a rather unfortunate name to be given in the 21st century.
“Now get into the butterfly position… that's your butterfly?”. She scowls. I'm already regretting this.
And a moment later…”Don't hurt yourself”
After an hour of being judged for my immobility, on my way back I encounter this specimen hauling a fridge on his back up the hill. I wonder what she would have said about his back mobility.
I've already seen the porters carrying all manner of everything - food, supplies, building materials. I should ask them if they want to try Crossfit.
